Plastic Trays as Organizing Tools

A simple plastic tray can be your secret weapon in keeping your home neat and organized. From the kitchen to the living room, the bedroom to the powder room, you'll find dozens of uses for this humble object.

  • Slice bread or cake on small plastic trays—crumbs will stay on the tray and make for an easy clean-up.
  • Dicing fruits or vegetables on a tray keeps both juice and your chopped-up pieces in one spot. It's then easy to sweep the pieces onto a plate or into a pot. If you're interrupted while chopping, set the knife down on the tray where you can find it later.
  • Place a decorative tray on your coffee table or side table to collect remote controls, reading glasses, or other useful items.
  • You'll always know where to find your watch, rings, and other jewelry if you consistently place them in a tray on your dresser or side table when taking them off.
  • When sorting pills, using a tray that contrasts in color to the pills may help you to see them better. If you drop a pill, you won't have to worry about looking for it on the floor.
