National Senior Center Month

September includes National Senior Center Month with the theme of "Find Balance at Your Center". The National Institute of Senior Centers chose this theme to showcase the opportunities provided at senior centers to engage older adults to be active physically, mentally, and emotionally in the community. AFB is taking this theme one step further to obtain feedback about senior centers from older individuals with vision loss . How do consumers with vision loss use senior centers and what might need to be changed? We invite you to take our survey on senior centers.

Finding Balance with Your Health—It’s Healthy Aging Month

During this month we promote the importance of eye health among older persons. The report proposes an all-encompassing framework to guide action and coordination among stakeholders in pursuit of improved eye and vision health and health equity in the United States. Such a framework is sorely needed in this country, as is noted in this excerpt from NASEM's website: "Millions of people grapple with undiagnosed or untreated vision impairments—ranging from mild conditions to total blindness—and eye and vision health remain relatively absent from national health priority lists."
