Who should I see?
If you do not have an eye doctor, a good start would be to go to an optometrist. The optometrist can diagnose and treat many common eye problems. The optometrist is similar to a primary care doctor. If a person needs surgery or specialty care the optometrist can refer the person to an ophthalmologist, or a sub-specialist, such as a retinal specialist (who can address specialized treatments such as those needed for someone with diabetic retinopathy). Many optometrists and some ophthalmologists have additional qualifications and experience in the area of low vision.
