Sometimes people speak to me as though I can't hear. I have a vision problem-- my hearing's fine!

This can be upsetting. There are many misconceptions about vision loss and the assumption that a person with vision impairment also has a hearing loss is a common one. Try to be proactive in educating others about your vision impairment. In a pleasant manner, just inform the person that your hearing is intact and ask them to speak to you in their normal voice. Sometimes a little humor can help the situation.
