The Self-help Resource Center for Vision LossWhat are sheltered workshops?
Sheltered Workshops
provide supervised and safe work areas, along with assistance for individuals who are blind, have low vision, and/or additional disabilities. These job sites are separate from mainstream employment and are designed specifically for individuals who require additional support due to disability.
Sheltered workshops provide assembly or production work, and are usually run by organizations that have contracts for specific job assignments from Federal and state agencies and private businesses. For more information on sheltered workshops, contact your Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, the National Federation of the Blind[link opens in new window], the American Council of the Blind[link opens in new window], and GovTrack.us[link opens in new window], which tracks all types of legislation in the U.S. Congress.
