I have so many workshop items, such as nails, screws, bolts, etc. any suggestions for helping me find them?
Good organization, as always, is the key! Use a system that you feel comfortable with and is relatively easy to remember. Some suggestions for organizing your items include:
- Multi-drawer storage containers that would separate different sized nails, screws, nuts, bolts and other small items.
- Coffee cans, plastic tubs, and similar containers can be used and stacked on shelves to store larger items or larger amounts.
You can identify the contents of your stored items by marking them in any of the following ways:
- Writing large-print on white labels with a thick felt-tip pen.
- Using a Braille labele.
- Gluing to the top or side of the container a sample of that container's contents, such as a nail.
- Bottom-line: Use whatever system works for you.
While it may seem quite tedious to set up your system, once it is done you will be able to use and maintain it by adding additional containers and making new labels.
