I feel if I keep going to different eye doctors I'll find one that will be able to restore my sight. Is this normal?

The majority of individuals with vision impairments who have lost sight in their later years would prefer to see clearly again. As a result, they may visit many doctors before they accept that a cure may be unavailable at this time.

Today numerous advances have been made, and continue to be made, in medical and health care technology. For this reason it’s impossible to say there will “never” be a cure for certain eye diseases or conditions. Hoping for a cure is normal. One day you might indeed find the right doctor and treatment to enable you to regain your vision.

However, in the interim, please ask yourself the following questions: Can I afford to continue to visit several doctors? Is it causing a financial hardship for me and my family?  Am I having problems functioning due to my vision loss and refuse to accept assistance? If I am unable to regain my sight, can I face being a person with vision impairment? Should I find out more about vision rehabilitation?

If your search for a different doctor and a new cure is reasonable and doesn’t impact on the quality of your life, good luck to you. But in the meantime, try to make adjustments that will help you maintain your personal safety, life quality and relative independence.
