Job Title: Employment Specialist
Department: Low Vision Rehabilitation Center

Report To: Director-LVRC

Program Goals:
1. To provide the skill building and necessary supports to facilitate successful employment outcomes.
2. To ensure clients secure and maintain competitive employment that is consistent with their personal vocational goals.
3. Identify and develop competitive employment opportunities and on-the-job training prospects for persons who are visually impaired and/or possess other disabilities.
4. Assists employers in revising standards which exclude applicants from jobs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Employer/Client Relationships
a. Develop and maintain relationships with employers to create unique job opportunities specific to employer and client needs, interests, and abilities.
b. Travel extensively throughout Shreveport, Bossier City and surrounding parishes to secure employment positions that meet customer guidelines, consumer goals and objectives.
c. Assist clients with job applications, interview techniques, provide technical support or make referral to appropriate department for assistance in LAB.

2. Documentation Responsibilities
a. Identify and document all ongoing job support needs to consumer support network, LRS counselors, employers, and other human service professionals through written and oral reports, as needed.
b. Document all job development and follow-along activities including, but not limited to: client files, LRS reports, job match analysis, time schedules, daily travel, daily activity reports, job coach time logs, milestone reports and all other reports/documentation, as needed.

3. Professional Development Responsibilities
a. Communicate closely with job coach(s) for success of employers and clients experience.
b. Conduct site visits to employment sites to assure consumer goals are met, and to identify support and technical assistance needed in carrying out best practice program initiatives.
c. Partner with LRS liaisons to assist clients with successful work readiness and Pre-ETS training as outlined by LRS.
d. Assist with extended follow-long caseload by conducting monthly telephone contacts with employers.
e. Assist in providing job coach support on weekends, nights, and holidays, as needed.
f. Completion of all other duties assigned by supervisor.

4. Advocacy
a. Establish and maintain relationships with local state and federal representatives relating to customized employment.
b. Stay current on disability issues and participate in training opportunities that provide continuing education in the related field with permission of your supervisor.

1. Bachelor's degree in Rehabilitation, Business or Similar Degree.
2. APSE certification, or ability to obtain within 12 months of employment.
3. Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
4. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
5. Must be highly organized and self-motivated.
6. Excellent interpersonal skills.
7. Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, Internet research and basic office equipment: copy machine, printer, and calculator.
8. Must keep abreast with new trends of Supported Employment Systems.
9. Must be a team player and easily adapt to change.
