Audio Games for Your Computer

Computer Games Based on Sound

Do you love computer games but wonder how to enjoy them with impaired vision? Audio Games is a new category of computer games based on sound rather than on graphics. Audio Games can open a new world of entertainment for gamers who are blind or have low vision.

How Do Audio Games Use Sound?

Three dimensions of sound are used: location, volume, and pitch.

  • Location: A sound is played in the left, center, or right channel to indicate an object's position in a virtual gaming environment. Sound effects are used as indicators of hazards or objects with which the user can interact.
  • Volume: Can be used to indicate an object's proximity with reference to the user.
  • Pitch: Can be varied to convey other information about an object in the game.

Where Can I Find Audio Games?

You can try out prototypes of new games on line at the Audio Games Play Center. Or visit the Bavisoft web site to see their audio game products. You can find a list of audio game developers at PCSGames.Net.
